This wine is made from Malbec vineyards planted in the Colchagua Valley on average 16 years ago.
Viu Manent Gran Reserva Malbec is sourced from 25 different vineyard blocks in Viu Manent's San Carlos vineyard. Viu Manent is a family-run business founded in 1935 by Catalan expat Miguel Viu Garcia and his sons. Initially, the family prospered as a negociant wine business, but with the purchase of the Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco in 1966, they finally realised their dream of owning their own winery. Their vineyards are located in the Colchagua valley, and the estate includes 150 hectares of pre-phylloxera vines. The estate now has over 260 hectares of vineyards spread across three locations: San Carlos, La Capilla, and El Olivar, as well as some vineyards in Casablanca for their white wines. The San Carlos vineyard is one of Chile's oldest, having been founded in the nineteenth century with pre-phylloxera root stock from France. Viu Manent Gran Reserva Malbec is made from 100% Malbec grapes that were hand-picked and destemmed prior to vinification in stainless steel and French oak. Prior to release, the wine is aged for 12 months (83 percent in French oak barrels). The vines have an average age of 29 years.
