The Glenlivet's 15-year-old expression was aged in French Limousin Oak casks. The Limousin oak is a favoured choice for Cognac maturation.A method of selected maturation gives the 15 Year Old its characteristic rich and exotic character. A percentage of the spirit is aged in French oak barrels. In fact, The Glenlivet was one of the first distilleries to use French oak in the production of whisky, a process that has since been copied all over the world. The Limousin oak is harvested in the Dordogne region of France, where it is commonly used to age cognacs. Because of its low density, whisky can penetrate deep into the wood, and The Glenlivet meticulously monitors the length of time the whisky spends in the casks to ensure that The Glenlivet 15 does not overpower the desired result. The end effect is a distinct and enjoyable spiciness.
