THE BOTANIST 700ML ISLAY DRY GIN

This outstanding Islay gin was created at the Bruichladdich distillery and produced in the 'ugly betty' still, which Tom Morton describes as "an giant upside-down dustbin made of copper." Perhaps the best-looking gin container we've ever seen - yet it's not all beauty and no substance. This is a high-quality gin. The Botanist contains 31 botanicals, 22 of which are foraged and endemic to Islay.

Taste
  • Nose: Complex and aggressively flowery nose, with elderflower and mint being the two botanicals that truly shine out after a few minutes.
  • Palate: A rich, silky smooth gin that is enjoyable to sip neat, making it a unique beast. A citrus note from the lemon balm dominates the flavor, which is tempered by a buffet of floral flavors from the other botanicals utilized. Too many ingredients might be a negative thing at times, but in this case, the total genuinely is better than the sum of its parts.
  • Finish: Long and complex, with the botanicals gradually fading one by one, leaving a wonderful minty freshness in the end.
