The Paul John brand of single malt whiskies (named after their Chairman) is produced by John Distilleries in Goa, India, and signals a foray into premium spirits for a company that is already a major player in the Indian molasses 'whisky' market. Brilliance is made from Indian 6-row barley from the Himalayan foothills and aged for 3-5 years in bourbon barrels before being bottled at cask strength.

Nose: A juicy centre of barley. With salted butter on ryvita. Cinnamon-dusted crimson berries, with a smidgeon of green apple skin on the side. Palate: Here you'll find chewy caramel and chocolate. Along the way, it picks up on vibrant spice, with a hint of waxy orange peel in the mid palate.. Finish: The scent of orange lingers. Surprisingly lengthy, with the nose's rye flavours returning in full force. |
