Osborne Fine Tawny Porto, This is a fantastic of a tawny port. The hue is amber, and the scents are peppery and caramel. With a hint of oak, this wine is full of nutty, earthy dried fruit aromas. Tawny ports have a lighter body, a nuttier flavor profile, and are less sweet than ruby ports. Serve with nuts or milk chocolate desserts. The grapes are thoroughly destemmed, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel containers with temperature control and lengthy pumping over. It is then matured for four years in oak barrels.
Northern Portugal's Tawny Port is a popular style of fortified wine. It's lighter in colour and aroma than Vintage and Ruby Port, and it's frequently created from grapes cultivated in the Douro's colder regions. Tawny has a nutty, oxidative flavour profile and is frequently served as an aperitif, rather than as an after-dinner drink. Unlike Ruby Ports, which are aged in bottles for the most of their lives, Tawny Ports are aged in barrels for several years. This allows oxygen to interact with the wine, giving Tawny Port its most distinguishing characteristics and resulting in the pale, "tawny" tint that the style is named after. Rather of shipping it downstream to Oporto, the tawny colour and nutty, aged aroma are often achieved by maturing in the heat of the upper Douro region. The "Douro Bake," a phrase sometimes used to describe the caramel-like smells that occur in wines aged this way, is a short-cut maturing procedure.
