Maker's Mark claims to distil their bourbon to the lowest proof of any distillery in the United States. This results in a bourbon with a rich flavour. Bill Samuels Sr. came up with the idea of replacing rye with red winter wheat to decrease the whiskey's scorching feeling.

Nose: Fruity and full-bodied. There are flavours of spiced honey and mixed peels, a touch of malmsey, hazelnut, and a hint of sliced fruit, all supported by toasty oak. Palate: The flavour is robust and rich. There are rye and spice notes, barley malt, a touch of nut oil, butterscotch, and vanilla. Finish: With butterscotch and dry oak spice, it's quite sweet. |
